Advance CTE Spotlight: Engaging Students and Parents about CTE Opportunities
While CTE is enjoying a resurgence in interest, there are still major barriers to communicating to students and parents that CTE is the right choice for them. Advance CTE, with support from the Siemens Foundation, conducted research to determine the best messages to use with students and parents to encourage them to enroll in CTE programs of study and recently released the related report, “The Value and Promise of Career Technical Education.” Hear from the researchers about the study's findings as well as the Siemens Foundation about why they supported this work.

Leveraging ESSA to Drive Career Readiness for All
The opportunities for states to integrate and prioritize career readiness and CTE within their Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) plans are numerous and meaningful, such as using career readiness indicators in a state's accountability system, encouraging inter-disciplinary professional learning opportunities at all levels, and leveraging school improvement supports to focus on career readiness outcomes. This session will feature states leading the way to value career readiness in their ESSA strategies.

Infrastructure Funding of the One-Stop Delivery System
Under the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act, the 4,000 pages of regulations released in August 2016, and the “guidance” issued by the Office of Career, Technical and Adult Education in January 2017, all one-stop partners, including Perkins postsecondary recipients must contribute to one-stop infrastructure costs and “career services” (basic, individualized, and follow-up). This session will help you navigate the dizzying array of regulations and guidance that has been shared by federal agencies, including how this guidance interacts with federal cost principles. Hear how states are calculating contribution caps and informing the development of the state funding mechanism.
