There is growing consensus that high school is far too late to begin to expose students to their career options and opportunities. This session will explore ways in which states can extend CTE into earlier grades or begin to infuse career readiness expectations for younger learners.

Wayne Kutzer is the State Director for the North Dakota Department of Career and Technical Education and Executive Officer of the State Board for Career and Technical Education. His past educational experiences include five years as an instructor and eleven years as Director of the Southeast Area Career and Technology Center in Oakes, ND. Prior to that, he had nine years in the private sector in business administration and as a small business owner. In his 15 years as State Director, the Department of Career and Technical Education has increased funding for local schools and area centers, increased access to CTE programming for students through the creation of virtual area centers and provided incentives for schools to share programming through a variety of cooperative arrangements.
